While a daring move on Disney's part to explore mutant acceptance in fantasy settings, I feel like the parts with Hans and his kingdom grasping were handled very poorly. Succession was of untold import in Danish princedoms, and Elsa would have had a retainer for the years she was unfit to claim the crown. Eliminating her as a potential threat without any witnesses (or a treaty between his parents and the kingdom of Arrendale) would have just plunged the tiny kingdoms into a war as the aristocracy struggled to gain power and deal with Han's lack of planning. Alas. You can only expect so many things from a twelfth son.

Then they all wouldn't see Elsa's snow-monster army approaching to reign horrible, terrible vengeance.

Rapunzel is still the best. She has a frying pan and magic hair that glows when she sings.

Queen Medusa made me watch that. She was quite taken with it, but I think she saw a little too much of herself in the lead character.

At least, that's how I explain her running around with a frying pan for a week.

Really I should have expected that she would like it. I imagine Crystal may have been quite taken with ... oh bugger, the one from Atlantis, who has water powers. I never remember her name because Disney seems to not care about that movie one whit.

Despite that clearly Milo is Doug Ramsey.

Okay, my glasses are nowhere NEAR that big.

Should Disney have an interesting in animating Mr. Ramsey?

If I remember correctly, Princess Crystal found its lack of music to be a major downside.

Dude, I'm pretty sure you're missing the point.

Besides, Prince Charming being a total asshat is kind of an awesome change for Disney, if you ask me.

The point is that Disney was daring the Friends of Humanity to burn down their castle?

And only the heir is the charming one.

No, dude. The point is that family's more important and will stick by you when nobody else will.

Now I get you.

Well, yes. It was a good moral lesson about depression, change, and the power and fortitude of family. It is also a Disney film. That shouldn't be unexpected.

There were a few brave archetype subversions, however.

You're thinking anxiety, or possible anxiety and depression. But it was nice to see them have a main character who was not neuro-typical.

I was a fan of the moose.

I think you need to come to movie night more often.

What? You find my political analysis of a children's film off-putting? :)

I just think you need to open your mind to more movies.

Oh, this was shown in class. We're supposed to break it down for a paper.

Movie night sounds good, though.

Which class is this? I am hoping to get into film school, if my acceptance letter ever arrives.

Sunday Nights I usually hold a classic movie night. Drop by. Or I'll come and find you.

Political Theory I. I think the teacher really, really wanted to watch something cute and not actually teach. Everyone on campus is very eager to get to spring break.

I'll drop by if you're in the common room? Otherwise, find me.

Well, I'm not volunteering to watch any more Disney movies than I need to.

I hear you, McKenzie. (See, I'm learning.) That company's a bunch of racists.

All over the board too. The trolls were a sad caricature of the Sami culture. A girl in my sociology class argued the other week that Brave was racist against the Scottish.

I want to know when we get the animated movie about an Attilani duke who has to save his kingdom from talking pirate sharks.

The American cultural beast will stop at nothing to consume your subculture and turn it into obnoxious stereotypes.

As if any Attilani could be characterized as obnoxious. :)

Still, though, you have a valid concern. Ugh, mass media.

You're preaching to the choir, buddy. I'm brown. You think I've ever seen myself represented on screen?

(And before anyone chimes in, the black doc from Grey's Anatomy and the Hispanic nurse from Scrubs do not count.)
